A salty mom loves her people fiercely. She has ideas, opinions, and a running commentary that occasionally escapes her mouth.

She wants good things for her family. She also thinks she should be allowed to say “what the hell?” when the day calls for it.

I recently cleaned off my desk. Sounds simple. But my desk is where work happens, where ideas for A Salty Mom happen, and where mysterious objects gather as if they’re paying rent. I cleared the space and made a box of things I still needed to deal with.

Was the box a perfect solution? No. Did I feel better being able to see my desk again? Absolutely.

That’s a little glimpse of what “salty mom” means to me. I care about my home and the people in it. I want to make things better. Some days I do that with a big plan; other days I clear one surface and tell the pile of paperwork to stop looking at me.

Being salty doesn’t mean being unkind. It means I can be honest about the messy, funny, frustrating parts of life while still putting my whole heart into it.

If you love your people, have approximately 47 plans in your head, and occasionally need to mutter your way through one of them, you’re in good company.

Mine might be, “This box is organized. It’s organized into a box.”
